Industrial Repair Service Sponsors K9 for Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office

Industrial Repair Service (IRS) is proud to announce its sponsorship of a K9 for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. The newly acquired K9, Servo, is a two-year-old Florida Malinois with specialized training in narcotics detection and will soon be trained in tracking.

“In the short amount of time we’ve been working, we’ve been able to take a good amount of drugs off the street which in turn is not getting in the hands of our kids,” said Bryan Stark, Deputy of the Cherokee County Sherrif’s Office. “[Servo's] a huge asset to the community and to the sheriff’s office.”

Servo’s training involves a unique method that uses scent-filled tubes to familiarize him with various illicit substances, including marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. Through a rewarding game-based approach, Servo learns to associate specific scents with the tubes, and by closely observing Servo’s breathing, body language, and other subtle indicators, Deputy Stark can effectively determine when an alert is imminent.

Industrial Repair Service is committed to supporting local ventures by making a positive impact on public safety and a difference in the communities it serves. The remarkable influence Servo’s already made has inspired IRS, and they are currently developing plans to contribute to K9 units at other locations in the future.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever done anything like this, and it feels really good,” said James Doyle, President and Chief Executive Officer of Industrial Repair Service. "We're proud to be able to support our local law enforcement and help them keep our community safe. This is just the beginning.”
